Better ??

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out with my border decision. It seems most were with me and that the squares did not look quite right. Some of your comments made me laugh - especially the one about it being half-baked - lol !!

Sooooooo - off came the squares and on went the cream with a little addition of the cornerstones.

What do you think?

The cream border has a small print and I do think it's better. Although maybe the squares just needed to grow on me - lol !!

Anyway it's layered up now for hand quilting and I'm not faffing about with it any longer. It's 36 inches square so not too big and shouldn't take me too long to get quilted ( famous last words ? )

But you know how easily we are all sidetracked. I bought this book last week

and just had to give one a go.

This one is called Strawberries and cream and made it's way to my mum's kitchen as a little extra Mothering Sunday present. Great book I must say. I have started on another tea cosy - this time for me.
A little story about making this. My kids are so used to me making things that they don't always take a lot of notice of what I'm doing. Anyway Patricks friend ( 13 yo ) was sleeping over on Saturday night and was absolutely fascinated by what I was doing. I could see him watching me knit one of the little strawberries. He asked Patrick to pass him one of the finished ones and was examining it closely. Jokingly I asked him if he would like me to knit him a strawberry and he said yes - he would love one. Bless him.

Hope you all get some stitching in this week..

Yes, that looks better. But I would love to see you bind it in the pale bright blue( or even add a half inch plain border of blue? )

Your cosy is such fun!

I do like that one better, although the squares were nice too. The green makes the compass stand out somehow...lovely!

I love, love, love the results of the poll on your Mariners compass. It's perfect now!

The mariner's compass is just right now. Just the right amount of detail! The centre stands out in all its glory.

I still love the richness of the squares. But then I am all about vibrant color.

If you are happy with it, that is what matters.

Better? I don't know about that but this surely makes the star stand out! I love everything you do so sometimes I'm no help! I can tell you one thing - you've got me going on the TIN kick. With the hand piecing I'm doing lately oh friend... dear me. I'm making do with the Tin's I have. They're all Xmas Tin's. Now I'm going to have to start hunting.

I think you've created a monster.

OH! I love it! And the green in the corner is perfect to pull out the green of the compass. I noticed the print cream last night and I loved that fabric! It is perfect. And the story about the strawberry is way too cute!

The cream is much better - every quilt needs a bit of calm for the eyes to rest on.

This strawberry story made me smile and reminded me of the time a friend of one of my three came over and was totally mesmerised by the sewing machine - on questioning he confessed he'd never seen one before much less knew what it was

What a lovely story about the 13yo boy who loves the strawberry! My son- now 42- also loved little knitted or crafted things, & we still have his star Xmas tree decoration he made when he was about 10.
