Well Patrick got back safe and sound. He had a fantastic time and had lots to tell us. He also had a shocking confession - he had only cleaned his teeth once in 3 days - aarrgh ! Dirty little beggar - lol ! Apparently there was no time - yeah right ! He was shattered but happy to be home. Not as happy as us though.
To keep myself busy I set myself a little target for the weekend. Borders on this quilt.

I seem to get to the border stage and come to a grinding halt. I think the problem is I like pieced borders and that's a whole lot more work. I have got several lovely quilt tops at the border stage and I want to put that right. I can think of 4 straight up.
So I worked and sewed whenever I had a spare moment and here we are.

What started as a little 3 inch block as an experiment with some scraps certainly grew a bit - lol !

In my usual manner I had cut far too many piano key strips and these turned into this.

Once I get borders on this ( not pieced - I hasten to add ) it will become an emergency baby quilt if there is such a thing. You know what I mean. I had more fun doing the little one but was very proud of myself for getting the borders done on the big one.
I am going to dig out my next quilt to get the border treatment later on. If I get all the tops completed by the end of the year I will be happy. The quilting can wait for a while.

Loooove the borders. They do set the quilt off very nicely and and little quilt is so cute too. Well done - you should be proud of yourself.

I'm just like you, I have several that need borders! Love the idea of the emergency baby quilt. Seems like I am always trying to make one at the last minute.

Congrats on getting the borders onto the big quilt. I have the same problem, it is much more fun to piece the blocks but once it gets bulky I tend to get bored. Love the 'emergency' baby quilt.

Always good to have the kids back home safely. Looks like you have borders and a bonus! The scrappy quilt is wonderful and you'll soon have a baby quilt in stock when needed.

The border looks fabulous! I usually cave in and put a plain border on a busy quilt, but you certainly have a creative eye!

love how it grew and grew into that great quilt!! the borders are lovely....and welcome home Patrick....you are lucky he brushed his teeth three times ... a lot of boys his age wouldn't have bothered at all...LOL...they are boys after all!! gotta love 'em...I am off to watch my "baby" (he is almost 24!) play football today...tomorrow he is off on a few days holiday while he is on schools hols (he is a teacher) .. I better make sure he has his toothbrush packed! LOL

Beautiful work as usual. It's amazing how a border can change a quilt completely. Good girl to have used up the extra pieces in the baby quilt.
Glad that Patrick enjoyed his outward bound weekend. It does them good to get away as a group and do things they don't normally do. (I bet you missed him more than he missed you.)

Both quilts are lovely. It's wonderful when we end up with another quilt, just from "leftovers". It's like a "free quilt".
