Borders !

Well Patrick got back safe and sound. He had a fantastic time and had lots to tell us. He also had a shocking confession - he had only cleaned his teeth once in 3 days - aarrgh ! Dirty little beggar - lol ! Apparently there was no time - yeah right ! He was shattered but happy to be home. Not as happy as us though.

To keep myself busy I set myself a little target for the weekend. Borders on this quilt.

I seem to get to the border stage and come to a grinding halt. I think the problem is I like pieced borders and that's a whole lot more work. I have got several lovely quilt tops at the border stage and I want to put that right. I can think of 4 straight up.

So I worked and sewed whenever I had a spare moment and here we are.

What started as a little 3 inch block as an experiment with some scraps certainly grew a bit - lol !

In my usual manner I had cut far too many piano key strips and these turned into this.

Once I get borders on this ( not pieced - I hasten to add ) it will become an emergency baby quilt if there is such a thing. You know what I mean. I had more fun doing the little one but was very proud of myself for getting the borders done on the big one.

I am going to dig out my next quilt to get the border treatment later on. If I get all the tops completed by the end of the year I will be happy. The quilting can wait for a while.

Loooove the borders. They do set the quilt off very nicely and and little quilt is so cute too. Well done - you should be proud of yourself.

Both of those are lovely! I am so glad that you persevered through the pieced borders!

I need a strong kick in the patoot to do plain borders... Definately one of my stumbling blocks.

Wow it is great, the narrow green strip that frames the piano key strips does its job ;)

You know...I don't know that I've ever heard anyone say that they love putting on borders. Yours look fantastic!!! Love the sashing treatment too. Well done, Andrea.

And as they say..."boys will be boys." Welcome home to Patrick!

I had a little giggle when I saw the cake, I thought to myself now this mum sure does miss her boy. Love both quilts, and how clever to have a spare baby quilt.

What a fantastic little experiment! :) It turned out wonderful! Will you be quilting it by hand or machine?
Cute little baby quilt. Good idea to have one on hand for a quick gift.

So glad that Patrick had a good time and that he is now back home. That gross little bugger, not brushing his teeth.

I'm just like you, I have several that need borders! Love the idea of the emergency baby quilt. Seems like I am always trying to make one at the last minute.

Cute cake! So glad Patrick's back home safe and sound!!!
Wonderful borders and I bet a great distraction from worrying about him. The baby quilt is very very cute too!

Congrats on getting the borders onto the big quilt. I have the same problem, it is much more fun to piece the blocks but once it gets bulky I tend to get bored. Love the 'emergency' baby quilt.

Always good to have the kids back home safely. Looks like you have borders and a bonus! The scrappy quilt is wonderful and you'll soon have a baby quilt in stock when needed.

Your little experiment sure grew!
I am the same way about getting stuck at the borders. Well, not stuck exactly, I guess I would call it "delayed"!
Glad our son is home safe and sound, even with the dirty teeth!

This turned into a wonderful quilt! I'm happy you were able to get more of the fabric to finish the geese into the inner border! And your piano keys really finishes off those scrappy blocks!

The little leftover baby quilt is really cute - some baby will be very happy to get it!

Happy Patrick is home again, and that he had a great time :o)

The border looks fabulous! I usually cave in and put a plain border on a busy quilt, but you certainly have a creative eye!

Welcome home Patrick, it's great to have peace and quiet, but great to get them home again too.

Great quilts, I love the little bonus one, well done.

I like pieced borders too and they can be a lot for work. Your selection of a border for the quilt does it justice. Good job.

Oh, Well done. Actually it is the sashing on your quilt that intrigues me - it is beautiful!

If not brushing his teeth was as bad as it got I think you are probably lucky knowing what kids get up to at camp!

Great little extra quilt you made.

Wonderful excuse for you and your son to have cake!
What a great finish on that quilt. Thought it was beautiful before you put the borders on, and then WOW! They added so much more.

Your scrap 'experiment' turned out lovely. I adore what you did with the border leftovers too; it will make some baby very warm.

Beautiful work as usual. It's amazing how a border can change a quilt completely. Good girl to have used up the extra pieces in the baby quilt.
Glad that Patrick enjoyed his outward bound weekend. It does them good to get away as a group and do things they don't normally do. (I bet you missed him more than he missed you.)
That cake looks yummy, I bet it didn't take long to vanish.

That border sets off that quilt perfectly! You always come up with just the perfect solution. Lovely baby quilt too.

Both quilts are lovely. It's wonderful when we end up with another quilt, just from "leftovers". It's like a "free quilt".

Wow! This quilt turned out great. That sashing treatment is one I'm working on and...well its in a bag if that tells you anything.

Yours is fantastic. And I love how you whipped out that cute little quilt with the scraps, too.

I want to be like YOU when I grow up! ;) *karendianne/ Living Life at LeeHaven
