Well, things don't seem quite as bad this week. Thanks for your good wishes. Summer has arrived here with a vengeance. Hot, hot, hot ! Andyou know what I hate it ! Summer is my least favourite time of year. I hate feeling hot and sticky. I hate being unable to sleep at night. I hate flies and bees - I could go on - lol ! So I have been hiding out in my sewing room which is relatively cool and playing about.
First of all I got the main section of this quilt done.
Still not sure if I like it or not. I think it's growing on me. I do not know what to do for borders. Any ideas ?? As the blocks are scrappy I want to do a pieced border of some kind. I have loads of the dark green left. I don't particularly want to use any more of the lilac print. I think I will stew on it. I love the sashings and may do this again.
There was a lot of workings out to do on this as it is basically one I designed as I went along. Here is my pattern - lol ! On here is all the cuttings sizes and sashing amounts I needed etc. I kept losing this blessed thing... I made a few mistakes working out sizes etc but it all fit in the end.
I have started a new summer project but have no photos yet but whilst I was sorting out my stash for this I came across a charm pack I had bought some months ago. This is the first and last charm pack I have bought. I have sort of challenged myself to make something nice from this and have been having great fun with it. Here are a couple of pics.....

See you all soon..

Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I too love that sashing. What about a piano key border?

Andrea I just adore that sashing design with those 'cornerstones' (I think they need a grander label than that actually) I agree with Joyce -scrappy piano keys would work well especially if you dotted a little of the lilac and purple in amongst to tie it all together - you could also do a bigger version of the cornerstone design for your border corners - like the 'back of a fag packet' planning - isn't that how all people plan quilts - I do :o)))

Agree with both of the above, I think you need to bring someof the scrappies back in (possibly with the green). Your sashings are awesome!

That quilt is sooooo pretty. Love the colours you have used. Well done. Can't wait to see how you finish it.

Soooo pretty Andrea. If it were mine I'd be putting the final flying geese into the border to finish off your sashing pieces.

I love this quilt but I don't feel qualified to comment or suggest ideas as the newbie I am. Can't wait to see it finished!

This is a wonderful quilt. The colors and placement are magnificant. I would complete the conors stones on the outside and leave as it. That is my suggestion even though you didn't ask for any.

LOVE the setting idea on your scrappy quilt! What about making scrappy flying geese and sewing them on sideways (end to end around the border) and making the purple goose point out at the end of the sashings to complete the fourth side of the square-in-a-square?

I love that quilt!! It is lovley. The sashing is very special, how clever of you to work out all the measurements etc.

Glad to see you are on the up again. :-) I love summer and couldn't wait for it to get here, don't worry you'll get some relief soon, this is GB after all! LOL

Your quilt looks stunning, the sashings are lovely, why not stick with the scrappy theme started by the blocks and go for a piano key border, maybe incorporate a little more of the green in there? Oh! I just read some of the other comments and I see I'm not the only person to think of that, LOL Great minds think alike and I'm more than happy to think the same as these ladies!

I love the sashing. It's given me an idea for sashing a load of sampler blocks I have. You don't mind if I pinch it do you.

You'll be pleased to know that it's a lot fresher in South Wales this morning, almost cold even.

love and hugs xxx

I think this quilt is amazing. Maybe you should do something in the green fabric. I love how the green and lilac work together. Good luck with the border ^_^

Your quilt is absolutely wonderful, Andrea! I agree with the other ladies; make the flying geese units to finish off the square in a squares on the edges (I know - it means more of the lilac prints!), and then a scrappy green piano key border.

I am forever writing quilting calculations and measurements on envelopes and such. :cD
Lovely quilt. I think you should finish the sashing design out into a narrow border. Complete the squares. Then a piano key border would be nice.

I like the visual effect of the cornerstones on the quilt--I think it's beautiful!

I too dislike summer A LOT! For all the same reasons you do!

Those cornerstones in the sashing are awesome! I don't know that I've seen those before -- did you just come up with that? It's really stunning!

That sashing is stunning!!! I love it. I think that I am going to use it on a quilt or two in the future!!!
I think that a piano key border would just finish it off. This is such a fun quilt! Great Job!
I totally agree with your feelings about summer! You are lucky that your sewing room is fairly cool, mine is the hottest room in the house. So I don't get much done in the summer.

I'm glad to hear things are better for you this week. I hate the hot muggy summer weather as well. If it is cold you can always add a sweater and sit by a nice fire -- if it is hot there is very little you can do to make it cooler.

I love the idea of a scrappy Piano key border. Love the quilt!!

I'm not a great fan of hot weather either. The quilt is wonderful!! If you want to add a pieced border I'd got for piano keys as several have already suggested.
Although I'd be inclined to finish the final row of cornerstone patterns and bind in the dark green.

Fabulous quilt Andrea!
I love the sashing. I always kind of lose my way with borders, but a scrappy one would be good

Oh good lord how did I miss this. Its AMAZING. Of course I love that sashing. My attempt ended up in a bag. It needed to hide from me. Yours is FANTASTIC.

The quilt is lovely, and the sashing very effective. I think you're right to leave the purple for a bit - maybe just a little to tie it together.
