And the answer was...

Yes - she wanted the quilt ! In fact she absolutely fell in love with it. Part of me is pleased that she liked it so much but the bigger part is sad that it is sold. I won't do that again in a hurry. I am thinking of maybe re-doing it in all my very favourite fabrics - you know the ones you don't think you can bear to cut ? I will have a think about it.

My friend Sue told her friend that she was under no obligation at all to take it but Sue said her eyes lit up when she saw it and that was that. She said her daughter would cherish it and it would be passed down and become a family heirloom. That's how much she loved it. She told Sue to re-assure me it would be well cared for and to thank me SO much etc etc. So at least I know it has gone to a good home and will not end up in the dog's bed - we've all heard horror stories like that.
Anyway, I will put the money towards a new sewing machine that I'm saving for. But in the meantime to cheer myself up a bit I went to my fabric warehouse in search of some tone-on-tones. Whilst rooting through my stash for fabrics for Bonnies new mystery quilt I found I was lacking in this department. I bought these
Some were absolute bargains - the pale pink marbled stuff is Michael Miller Krystal and was reduced from £9.35 a metre to £2.60. :-) Most of the other stuff was sold by weight and works out at good value.
I've had a bit of a yen for some crochet and have been doing this.
I'm now on my third one and am enjoying it. Once I'd figured the American abbreviations are slighty different to the UK ones I was ok. What we know as double crochet is the equivalent of American single crochet. Our double crochet is treble etc. I never knew that - you learn something new every day - lol !
I have the luxury of 3 hours un-interrupted sewing just as soon as I get my bum off this computer chair. I have a new project on the go as I have been quite good at getting stuff finished. It is another scrap-user and involves these bits and a few other odds and ends. Pictures as soon as I have anything to show.
I seem to be having a few new readers lately leaving comments but sadly they are showing no-reply. If I haven't responded to your comments that could be why so I thank you for visiting my blog and taking the time to chat. xx
have a great weekend !

Oh dear, that's a shame, but you have the assurance that it will be well looked after and loved. Should I send you a sympathy card?

I am one of your new readers and loving every word! Very interested in your fabric warehouse as I will be 'coming home' at the end of May and it sounds like a good place to stock up!!....Luv Ann J

Sorry you lost your quilt, but it must be gratifying to know someone else loves it! Your new fabric is great. I have that deep blue one in both yellow and purple -- they positively glow in a quilt, you'll love using it!

I am glad your friend's friend loved the quilt so much. I am also so sorry that you won't be getting to keep it. I don't think I have kept anything I have made in forever. I think I need to do something about that soon.
I love your crochet, it's beautiful and I had no idea that the terms meant different things in the UK. I will have to keep that in mind when looking for patterns. Can't wait to see what you make from that scrap bucket.

Sounds like it went to a good home indeed - taht's at least some consolation. Next time charge the full price of the sewing machine because truly that's what it's worth!

BTW is that fabric warehouse a chain because I want to do Bonnie's mystery too, but have absolutely no yardage whatsoever and could really do with some...

I love the quilt you sold, but it is nice to make some money out of this hobby we love, and think of all the fun you will make while making another!
The new purchases look great, and the crochet is exquisite! Tracey

Lucky you finding that sale fabric - sales are so few and far between in the UK and fabric is so expensive isn't it. If only I didn't live in Surrey I would be hotfooting it to your fabric warehouse.

Glad you took a picture of your quilt before you let it go to its new home. I've started taking pics of what I've made (I thought I don't get much done.. I do, most gets given away)then you can see what you've accomplished.
The fabric warehouse sounds like a great place to shop, nothing like that around here.

I am glad she liked the quilt so much. I have read on blogs where someone has spend lots of blood, sweat and tears on a quilt, given it away for it to be used as a dog blanket.

I love the crochet, it is unusual, not like traditional UK dollies.

The quilt is lovely ( I especially liked the border )and Congratulations on selling it - be proud about that - you can make another very similar ( good Excuse! )It sounds like it will be treasured and you may have future orders from it coming your way.

See you had to buy some more new fabric that can't be bad.

I think you have to put it down to experience and try to look at it as a huge compliment that someone loved your work so much and plans to treasure it. I am coaching myself in the act of saying NO and meaning it, when I get it right would you like some lessons??

Bitter sweet huh? At least it will be loved.

Your box of scraps looks interesting.

I wish we had a warehouse near us. I have to make do with the local Hospice shop or save the children, mind you it's surprising what can turn up.

Hi Andrea, i know the feeling. Almost all of my best work has been given away, unfortunately some to people who weren't even polite enough to say thankyou. Verry saad! Hugs Cherrie

I guess "congrats" is in order! LOL
at least that is another one finished, and you can always make another one....but would you get sick of this one too!!! LOL
well done, I think it is terrific you sold a quilt, and the new owner of it will love it!

=( Sorry you had to part with the quilt. But hopefully it will bring tons of happiness to it's new owner, and you can chalk it up to experience.

I made a few toddler/baby quilts in a row and started feeling really bumbed that all my work was going away. I mean, I love making things for brand new humans... but I also like having quilts I made for myself!

so I had to make myself a couple before even thinking about giving any more away.
