Scraps !

I mentioned in my last post I had dug out some scrappy strips from my scrap box. A lot of these were leftover bits of binding. I was sort of planning to make some string blocks. I have never made these before. They are not really my type of thing but I thought I'd have a go just to use up these odd strips. Here is the pile I pulled..

But you know what ? I couldn't do it. I have seen lots of string quilts and some of them are very nice but like I said they are not really me. Instead I spent a morning ironing and trimming down and resorted to an old favourite - log cabin.

The plan is to now sash these and use up the ones I have left in a piano key border. This will be purely to use up these bits so I can get the lid on my scrap box. I may donate this to Project Linus unless I find a home for it. It has quite a few novelty prints in it so will be ideal for a child. I hope to get this done today as I have a few free hours for sewing ahead. I have done all my shopping, cleaning and washing for the weekend.

I have done a couple more of the little stitcheries for the Written in Thread quilt too. I am enjoying doing these.

Not much else going on. I have some fabrics to finish cutting for a swap I am doing with Karen. I did plan on getting these out to her earlier in the week but have had a couple of days where I have felt not quite myself. Never actually came to anything but has made me tired. They'll be on their way soon Karen !

Hope you all have a great weekend xx

Oh I love the stitchery - is that machine embroidery or by hand?

The log-cabin quilt would be perfect for a child - so bright and cheerful.

Log cabin is a perfect way to use up lost of strips like that. As you say, string quilts aren't for everyone. The blocks look great - and the quilt will snuggle a needy child well.

It's perfect for Project Linus! It always delights me to see such a beautiful design come out of someone's scraps. :)

I LOVE those stitcheries!! I think they would look great not only for the front of a quilt, but used on quilt labels too. Just lovely!

You little stitcheries are so sweet, and put together so nicely. What kind of fabric are you using? I can't seen any shadows of threads behind it.

Cute little stitcheries.

Your log cabin blocks look great. I keep looking at my small but growing scrap pile and wondering what I'll eventually do with it.

You can create a lot of patterns by using Log cabin blocks and they are a great way of using up scraps I see.

Adorable stitcheries! And other people's scrap piles are so interesting...and it's great to see what they turn the jumble into. Doesn't it feel good to use it up?

Scraps are really just little pieces of fabric that we liked enough to use in some other quilt, so it is great not to waste them. I love to see creative ways to use them up. Yours looks great. Your little stitcheries are very pretty and some similar would make super special labels, with just a little more written on them.

Love the little stichery, they are so cute. I would like to do more of these, but at the moment I have started on a cross stitch which will be a wedding gift, so need to work on that first.
Enjoy you swap; these are always a lot of fun.

Personally I love string blocks, but they are not for everyone. Congrats on finding a different way to use your scraps that suits you better. The blocks look great :)

it's funny that some people just can't bring themselves to do string quilts. It's the chaos that overwhelms them. Good job we're not all the same! Your log cabins look great. perfect for Linus.
