What I've been doing.

Last week my DH had a call to fix a couple's computer. When he came back he told me that the lady ( called Sally ) had a hobby that he thought I would be interested in. She was a dolls house enthusiast. I have always been fascinated by these and have thought that maybe one day I would build one and furnish it. Anyway Jason had to return to the house and Sally very kindly showed me her collection. She has one finished completely. Another one which is going to be a bridal shop half-done and a huge ( about 6 feet tall ) mansion built and ready to start decorating. Absolutely beautiful. I could have spent hours looking at them. Of course she saw I was interested and gave me some magazines to look through. You would not believe the stuff you can get.

Anyway I came home and had a little look on the net for dolls house quilts - what else ? Then obviously I had to try one out.

This measures about 6 inches square and was great fun to do. Sally very generously gave me this bed so I could use it for size. In return I made her one of these in brown and cream. I may make some more of these for the dolls house I see in my not so distant future - lol ! I was prowling about on Ebay and couldn't resist this either - so sweet.

I may just start getting a few things as and when I see them. Oh yes - I need a new hobby - lol !

I have also been doing a little crochet. One of the womans magazines I get has launched an appeal in conjunction with Save the Children. Apparently it is a sad fact that approx 2 million babies die each year in Africa from hypothermia. They are asking for as many little knitted or crocheted hats as possible as they could literally save a babies life. These will maintain precious body heat that is lost through the head. Here are some finished ones

I've made 8 so far but the rest are not sewn up yet. They are very quick to do and take hardly any yarn. I will keep making them in between other work.

What else ? My 3D hexagon quilt is coming along.

I was considering making each hexagon from one colour - such as a dark, medium and light shade of each colour. As you can see I decided against it as I like the complete randomness of all the fabrics. Doing this is quite addictive. I have little piles of them everywhere.

I am doing my best to keep up with all my favourite blogs but am finding I am having less time to comment. Life seems too busy lately. I have had a couple of bad migraines - think I need some quality time alone with my Janome - lol !

Take care x

I love looking at the doll houses. There is a store a few hours from here and that is all that they carry. It is beautiful. I just love your hexagon quilt. Where did you find that pattern. I would love to start one, looks like it would be a great take along project.

Love the hexagon quilt, can't wait to see it finished!

I started on of these little crocheted hats for the same campagian. I ripped the page out of the magazine to take to the Czech Republic and lost the pattern somewhere - hopeless or what?

Wow, that doll's house quilt is so tiny and it's cute too. Not sure I have the patience, but I will admire from afar esp. the sewing machine: gorgeous!!

As you know, I love your hexagons. Once I've finished my traditional ones, you'll have to lead me astray with these ones :-)

Also could you let me have the address for the hats please? I have just given some (yesterday in fact) to a friend who takes them to a neo-natal charity here in the UK, but African children are close to my heart.

The doll quilt is so great and the 3d hexagons and the little hats. Wow you are so productive. I hope you have had your share of migraine for the next weeks.

The doll bed and quilt are so cute. I am sure I don't have the patience to work on something so tiny.

The hexagons are looking great, I love the fish fabric I can see in it.

Uh-oh, not another hobby!!! You could go into business making those bitsy quilts though!

I know what you mean about having piles of hexagons everywhere! My hex project is Victorian-inspired, pinks, browns and burgundies with rust and lavender here and there, just random but with white and cream flowers sprinkled throughout. I've got a basket for my main pieces but piles of squares and paper hexagons and piles of them ready to be stitched together are stashed in nooks and crannies all over the place.

I think you caught the same little baby hat making bug that I did!

You could be Sally's "offical" quilt maker for all the beds in the dolls' house. ( you know like quilt maker to the Queen )

Ohh another hobby...vbg. Isn't it fun investigating and dreaming about all the new things you can try? Love the hexagon quilt. I'm seriously stuck on my octagon one and am dreaming up the next paper pieced project as I sew. I can understand totally the need to have the hexgons/paper/fabric everywhere...vbg.

I have wanted to do a doll house for years but can't justify the expense of another hobby. I saw a very elaborate one in a museum when I was a child. Your little bitty quilt is so cute.

Doll houses are fun. I have one half done and have given it to my daughter to complete for my granddaughter. It was fun to make and I even have it wired for electricity. I have made some furniture from kits, but when I started quilting I just kind of lost interest. Hopefully my daughter will finish it and maybe I can make quilts for her house.

My mum got a dolls house when she retired and has enjoyed decorating!! Not sure she has made a quilt for the bed but I'll suggest it!! What a lovely thing to do, crocheting the little hats.

I have a big white elephant in my living room--a doll house begun by my brother for my girls eons ago. The girls are grown up and gone but the half done house lingers on! I found you on Ali's blogroll [it's all fancy and new!]and have loved sewing all your projects. That sewing bag is gorgeous; love the hexagons, the doll quilt; everything! Glad I found you. I'm sure to be back to drool often.....

I always wanted a Dolls house. My daughter had one a friend made for her, & I had such fun furnishing & decorating it, with her. We gave it away when we moved to Australia- I think we both wish we had kept it. Love your little quilt. The sewing machine is just so sweet.
The hexagons are lovely!
